Introduction to the Business Update
The Business Update is an email newsletter that provides up to date and late breaking news about the business units and branches within the Ministry of Economic Development.

The areas covered in the Business Update are:

  • Strategic Directions
  • Growth and Innovation 
  • Business News – news from the Companies Office, Personal Property Securities Register, Motor Vehicle Traders Register, Intellectual Property Office and Insolvency and Trustee Service, as well as news on small to medium sized enterprises, business law and regulation, free trade agreements and tariffs.
  • Energy and Resources
  • Tourism
    Consumer Issues
  • Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) – news on radio spectrum management and policy, as well as ICT issues.

Newsletters contain articles of interest relating to these areas. It’s an ideal way to stay on top of new developments or news from the Ministry. Articles can be viewed via the Business Update homepage http://news.business.govt.nz, or by clicking on the email newsletter links (subscribers only)

Subscription
You can subscribe to receive the Business Update monthly and/or when late-breaking news is sent out as a “newsflash”.

The email newsletter is sent directly to the address advised, and contains the newsflash or that month’s headlines. Clicking on a link to read more of the article will direct you to the Business Update website.

You can select to receive the Business Update in either HTML or text format.

Subscription to the Business Update is free, and you may unsubscribe at any time.

Subscribe to the Business Update using the “My Subscription/Subscribe to Business Update” link on the left hand menu.

Searching the News Archives
You can search past issues of the Business Update using the “News Archive” link on the left hand menu.

Searching is via keyword and date range, and results are sorted according to relevancy to search criteria (shown in a percentage score next to each article headline).

If you receive no hits from your search, consider expanding your date range or using different or fewer keywords.

For assistance with searching you can email the Business Update editor using the “Customer Feedback Form”, available under the “Contact Us” link on the left hand menu.

Printing the Business Update
All articles of the Business Update (current and previous) can be printed from the website. Once you have selected an issue or an article, a “print” option will appear underneath the left hand menu bar. Issues can be printed in either plain text or newsletter (containing the MED logos) format.

Forward to an Associate
If you think an article may be of interest to an associate or a friend, you can email a link to that Business Update page using the “forward to an associate” function. This options displays underneath the left hand menu bar.

To forward the page, simply click “forward to an associate”, and enter your own and your associates email address.

Contact Us
You can provide customer feedback via the Customer Feedback Form found under the “Contact Us” menu link.

Contact Details for all business units included in the BU are available, including freephone numbers and website addresses.

Email Newsletter Trouble Shooting

My Images are not coming through in the email?

  • Some email programs do not load images automatically. There will be a setting in your email program that will say load images, click this and images will be retrieved form the server.
  • You must be online to view images in the email.
  • If you are on a corporate network, it is possible that the Corporate mail-server has stripped out images. If your corporate server does not allow images to be viewed within an email, change your subscription to TEXT ONLY

I get my Business Update but a particular business unit news is missing from it?

  • Check "View My Subscription Details" setting under " My Subscription" on the left hand menu and make sure that you have the missing business unit activated under the Business Update Service

I have subscribed to Business Update but have not received anything?

  • Check " View My Subscription Details" setting under " My Subscription" on the left hand menu and make sure that you have that business unit activated under the Business Update Service.
  • It may be that spam filter has blocked this email message. Check with your system administrator to see if this is the case.

I get a message from my system administrator to say the Business Update has be blocked?

  • It may be that the system administrator only allows email communication for certain trusted emails.
    The system, administrator will need to add news@business.govt.nz to the the list of trusted sites.
