APEC energy meetings held in Wellington

The 21st Meeting of the APEC Expert Group on Energy Data and Analysis (EGEDA) and the Joint EGEDA and Expert Group on Energy Efficiency & Conservation (EGEE&C) meeting were held on 1-3 February 2010 at the Te Papa Tongarewa Wellington.

Mr. Kenichi Matsui, Councilor, Energy Data and Modeling Unit (EDMC), Institute of Energy Economics Japan (IEEJ) chaired the EGEDA meeting and Mr Terry Collins, Manager Products, Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority chaired the EGEE&C meeting.

Representatives from Australia, China, Hong Kong China, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore and Chinese Taipei attended the meeting. Representatives of the Asia Pacific Energy Research Centre (APERC) were also present. A representative of the International Energy Agency (IEA) attended the meeting as an observer and guest speaker. 

The EGEDA meeting commenced with a welcome address from Mr. Bruce Parkes, Deputy Secretary Energy and Communications Branch, Ministry of Economic Development, followed by an opening and thanking address by EGEDA Chair Mr. Kenichi Matsui.

The EGEE&C meeting commenced with the welcome address by Mr Simon Lawrence, Manager Energy Information and Modelling Group, Ministry of Economic Development, followed by an opening and thanking address by EGEE&C Chair Mr Terry Collins.

The meetings discussed the following items:
  1. APEC Energy Statistics
  2. Joint Oil Data Initiative (JODI)
  3. Other Activities
  4. APERC’s Research Activities
  5. Other Business
  6. EGEDA and EGEEC activities and major issues
  7. Energy data collection for preparation of reliable energy efficiency indicators (international trend)
  8. Household energy consumption survey – Japan’s case.
