Co-operation agreement with China on electrical and electronic goods now in force
Published: 15.10.2008
New Zealand’s cooperation agreement with China on Electrical and Electronic products came into force on 2 October 2008.
To enhance trade, the agreement allows New Zealand manufacturers of a specified range of electrical appliances and fittings to obtain China Compulsory Certification (CCC) through New Zealand certification bodies, using New Zealand test labs and factory inspectors, and the relevant International Electrotechnical Commission standards in accordance with the rules and requirements set up in the agreement.
The agreement also allows Chinese manufacturers to use a modified CCC marking regime to gain acceptable documentation and compliance for their products to be sold in New Zealand.
A Notice Recognising Regime of Compliance for the Purpose of Approval for Electrical Appliances and Fittings Before Being Offered for Sale was published in the New Zealand Gazette on 2 October 2008.
This Gazette notice is enacted alongside amendments to the Electricity Act, Electricity Regulations, Radiocommunications Act and Fair Trading Act, which collectively introduce the full obligations under the agreement.
