Energy Safety promotes safer electrical environment for caravan park users
Published: 15.10.2008
Energy Safety (ES) is currently in the process of checking and encouraging compliance of the electrical installations at caravan parks throughout New Zealand.
Owners and operators of caravan parks must ensure that the electrical installations in caravan parks are periodically inspected in accordance with the requirements set out in regulation 46 of the Electricity Regulations 1997. This periodic inspection will determine whether they are electrically safe and whether they otherwise comply with these regulations and details any electrical defects. It is the caravan park owner’s responsibility to attend to any defects noted in the inspection report.
Energy Safety has recently sent out letters to caravan park operators and owners requesting a copy of the current Certificate of Verification (CoV). In total 630 caravan park owners were contacted. The next phase, which has already begun, is to follow up on those who have not responded. This would include selective audits of caravan parks by Energy Safety, and enforcement action where necessary.
This programme will provide a safer electrical environment for caravan park users.
