Safe use of gas and electricity in caravans and motorhomes

Published: 11.02.2009

Gas appliances in motorhomes or caravans need air.

In New Zealand the majority of deaths associated with the use of camping appliances have been attributed to carbon monoxide poisoning. Without proper ventilation, stoves and lamps can give off poisonous carbon monoxide. A faulty appliance may also emit carbon monoxide, even in well-ventilated areas.

Likewise, electrical installations in caravans & motorhomes must be maintained in a safe condition. Always have a current warrant of electrical fitness which is valid for 4 years from the date of issue.
