Facilitating the deployment of broadband infrastructure

Published: 13.10.2009

The Ministry is consulting on a range of regulatory and non-regulatory measures that the government, local councils and industry groups could adopt to support the roll-out of both the government's recently announced ultra-fast broadband investment initiative and the government's rural broadband initiative.

Feedback is sought on the merits, and the costs and benefits, of measures to facilitate the deployment of broadband infrastructure, including:

  • access to support structures (such as ducts and poles) and services (such as in-house ducting and wiring),
  • access to land (private and public); and
  • Resource Management Act controls for public comment.

Submissions close at 5.00pm, Friday 6 November 2009

Written submissions should be sent by email (preferred option) to facilitating.broadband@med.govt.nz or by post to:
