33 proposals for ultra-fast broadband roll out

Published: 09.02.2010

Thirty-three proposals from 18 various parties and consortia interested in partnering with the government to roll-out ultra-fast broadband infrastructure have been received by Crown Fibre Holdings.

Crown Fibre Holdings is responsible for managing the Crown's $1.5 billion investment in the ultra-fast broadband initiative over the next ten years. This investment is expected to be at least matched by the private sector.

In October 2009, the government put out an Invitation to Participate (ITP), seeking proposals from the private sector.  A good response was received.

“All 33 local fibre areas have proposals, and it is very pleasing that there are a number of proposals from regional New Zealand, which have strong community support,” said Mr Simon Allen, Crown Fibre Holdings Chair.

Two competitive national solutions were also received, as was a proposal from an experienced international fibre operator.

Crown Fibre Holdings is currently reviewing the proposals.
