Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Negotiations

The 7th round of negotiations on the proposed Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA) was hosted by Mexico in Guadalajara from 26 to 29 January 2010.

The aim of ACTA is to provide a framework to fight global infringement of intellectual property rights, particularly around counterfeiting and piracy.

The discussions in Mexico focused on civil enforcement, border enforcement and enforcement of rights in the digital environment. Also, participants continued ongoing discussions about transparency matters, including providing information to stakeholders and the public.

The next meeting is to be hosted by New Zealand in April 2010.
