Rugby Ball heads to London

Prime Minister Helen Clark announced on Friday that the giant inflatable Rugby Ball venue, which was such a hit with media and visitors in Paris during Rugby World Cup 2007, will be deployed again in London in November, near the Tower Bridge.
The Ball was developed by Tourism New Zealand as part of a four year programme to promote interest in New Zealand as a tourist destination and in RWC 2011 in particular.
November’s deployment coincides with the end of the All Black’s Grand Slam tour of England. And, in another coup, International Rugby Board chair Bernard Lapasset, has confirmed that the Rugby Ball will be the venue for the IRB’s announcement of the RWC 2011 pool draw.
RWC 2011 Office Director Wayne Morgan says the high profile announcement combined with the quality of the Ball and its video presentation will focus attention on New Zealand as host country for the event.
New Zealand Trade and Enterprise, the Immigration Service and Tourism New Zealand will use the Ball as a vehicle for promoting this country as an innovative and creative place in which to live, work and do business.
“This is a great opportunity to promote many different aspects of New Zealand to an important international audience. Our culture, environment and innovation will be on display in the heart of London. Full marks to Tourism New Zealand for securing this opportunity,” Wayne Morgan said.
